He discovers that he and Chamber have been "salvaged" by a rag-tag band of scavengers aboard the Gargantia, a fleet of ships on an ocean-covered planet revealed to be the mythic planet Earth. Ledo must adjust to the language, culture and lifestyle, while finding his new purpose in life
